DevOps Engineers work closely with development teams to provide (and support) the environment needed to deliver the organisation’s services quickly and efficiently, using automation and self-service.
Agency requires an APS6 equivalent DevOps Engineer to design, build, support, maintain and deliver cloud-based solutions.
Candidates MUST have a NV1 Security Clearance. Agency will not sponsor candidates to upgrade their security clearances in order to apply for the role. The candidates MUST be an Australian Citizen.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Design, develop, deploy and manage cloud-based infrastructure and applications.
- Proficiency and understanding of scripting, programming and automation tools.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices, containerization and continuous integration/ continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Optimize cloud performance and configure cloud resources, implementing security measures, automating processes, and ensuring system reliability and scalability
- Collaborate with stakeholders to optimize cloud environments, troubleshoot issues, and support the continuous delivery of software.
- Provide ongoing support for CI/CD toolsets and troubleshoot performance issues.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, focusing on continuous improvement.
- Cultivate relationships internally and externally, offering mentorship as needed.
- Manage time and workload effectively to meet deadlines
Technical Skills required:
- Experience in developing ICT solutions in hybrid and commercial cloud - AWS
- Expertise in automation tools like AWS Cloud Formation, Terraform or Ansible and containerization using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or AWS Code Pipeline to streamline development workflows.
- Sound knowledge of cloud infrastructure and cloud native solutions
- Strong experience in network, security, storage and system engineering/solutions on Linux based systems.
- Proficiency in multiple scripting and programming languages.
- Ensuring cloud infrastructure adheres to governance policies and compliance requirements.
- Robust communication skills, including the ability to explain complex problems to management.
Essential criteria
- Availability management: Level 4 (SFIA): Analyses service and component availability, reliability, maintainability and serviceability. Contributes to the availability management process and its operation. Performs defined availability management tasks. Ensures that services and components meet and continue to meet all of their agreed performance targets and service levels. Implements arrangements for disaster recovery and documents recovery procedures. Conducts testing of recovery procedures.
- Methods and tools: Level 4 (SFIA): Provides advice and guidance to support the adoption of methods and tools and adherence to policies and standards. Tailors processes in line with agreed standards and evaluation of methods and tools. Reviews and improves usage and application of methods and tools.
- Programming/software development: Level 3 (SFIA): Designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, amends and refactors moderately complex programs/scripts. Applies agreed standards and tools to achieve a well-engineered result. Monitors and reports on progress. Identifies issues related to software development activities. Proposes practical solutions to resolve issues. Collaborates in reviews of work with others as appropriate.
- Systems design: Level 4 (SFIA): Designs system components using appropriate modelling techniques following agreed architectures, design standards, patterns and methodology. Identifies and evaluates alternative design options and trade-offs. Creates multiple design views to address the concerns of the different stakeholders and to handle functional and non-functional requirements. Models, simulates or prototypes the behaviour of proposed system components to enable approval by stakeholders. Produces detailed design specifications to form the basis for the construction of systems. Reviews, verifies and improves own designs against specifications.
- Systems integration and build: Level 4 (SFIA): Provides technical expertise to enable the configuration of system components and equipment for systems testing. Collaborates with technical teams to develop and agree system integration plans and report on progress. Defines complex/new integration builds. Ensures that integration test environments are correctly configured. Designs, performs and reports results of tests of the integration build.
