As the Senior Database Developer, you will play a key role in enhancing and maintaining a climate data management system used across the Pacific. You will contribute to the development, testing, deployment, and documentation of the platform, working closely with technical teams, partner countries, and international collaborators.

You will also provide training, implement software updates, and support system administrators across Australia and the Pacific region.

Short‑term travel across the Pacific (3–10 days per trip) is an essential part of this role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, maintain, and test climate database software in line with annual work plans
  • Install and configure software on hardware and cloud environments
  • Manage data backups and associated processes in AWS
  • Support the rescue, archival, and formatting of meteorological and ocean data
  • Develop and deliver training materials for system administrators
  • Produce and maintain comprehensive technical documentation
  • Collaborate with program partners, technical teams, and Pacific stakeholders
  • Build strong working relationships with regional implementation partners
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and manage competing priorities

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience designing and developing web‑based database applications
  • Strong proficiency in:
    • Linux (Ubuntu)
    • PostgreSQL
    • Python
    • HTML/PHP
    • JavaScript
  • Experience developing training and reference materials, ideally for developing countries
  • Experience analysing spatio‑temporal datasets
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a distributed team
  • Capacity and willingness to travel internationally

Highly Desirable:
  • Experience with:
    • Amazon Web Services
    • Apache
    • Bootstrap
    • Leaflet
    • Highcharts
  • Experience working with climate, environmental, or observational data systems
  • Experience in international development or technical capacity‑building
