About the Role
The department is looking for talented Cloud Engineers, ranging from junior to senior level, to join their team.
The Cloud Engineer contributes to Federal Government Department's digital transformation agenda through the delivery and uplift of cloud infrastructure, automation, infrastructure as code, and alignment with enterprise cloud architecture, security, and compliance frameworks. The role supports multiple internal stakeholders, including Application Delivery teams, Cyber Security, Network Services, and ICT Operations.
The Azure Cloud Engineer will work within the Cloud Services team to design, build, and enhance Microsoft Azure environment. The role is critical to ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable cloud platforms that meet departmental delivery, security, and governance requirements .
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement Azure infrastructure and platform solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Bicep, Terraform, or ARM templates
- Engineer and uplift cloud environments to improve resilience, security, and scalability
- Implement and maintain Azure governance controls, including policy, tagging, and management groups
- Design and support monitoring, logging, and observability solutions using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics
- Engineer automation solutions to support provisioning, configuration, and operational efficiency
- Collaborate with Cyber Security on secure design patterns, access controls, and RBAC models
- Support cost management and optimisation through engineering led improvements and automation
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to project teams deploying workloads into Azure
- Design and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions
- Support hybrid connectivity and identity integrations (e.g. ExpressRoute, VPN, Entra ID / AD Connect)
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, standards, and engineering patterns
- Contribute to continuous improvement of cloud engineering practices, tooling, and platforms
- Support audit readiness and compliance reporting related to cloud infrastructure
- Management of the Level 3 Support ticket queue.
