Join a well known Federal Government Department and play a key leadership role in designing, delivering, and optimising secure, scalable cloud solutions across a complex Federal Government environment. This role sits within the AI Delivery Team and is critical to supporting this Departments cloud roadmap and AI proof‑of‑concepts and product deployments.
As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and strategic direction, working across the GovAI platform. You will lead cloud engineering initiatives, uplift capability across teams, and ensure solutions align with Australian Government security and compliance standards.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead the architecture, deployment, and management of cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and/or GCP.
- Support AI proof‑of‑concepts and production deployments within the AI Delivery Team.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and establish consistent cloud engineering standards across DVA.
- Ensure cloud solutions comply with Australian Government security frameworks, including ISM and PSPF.
- Drive automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
- Optimise cloud environments for performance, resilience, and cost‑effectiveness.
- Provide expert advice on cloud strategy, governance, and emerging technologies.
- Mentor and guide technical staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Extensive experience in cloud engineering and architecture within complex enterprise environments.
- Advanced hands‑on experience with AWS, Azure, and/or GCP and associated services.
- Strong knowledge of cloud networking, security, and identity management in an Australian Government context.
- Proven experience with automation and orchestration tools.
- Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results under pressure.
- Work on high‑impact cloud and AI initiatives within a major Federal Government department.
- Leadership opportunity to shape cloud engineering standards and direction.
- Hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of two days per week in the office.
- Initial 6‑month contract with the possibility of extension.
