The Federal Government Department is seeking a highly motivated, technical, dynamic and experienced ICT engineer to fill the role of Security Applications and Systems Engineer role within the Electronic Security Systems (ESS) Operations section. This role is essential in maintaining the safety and security by providing effective operational support for security systems and applications that underpin physical security capabilities. The successful applicant will support, enhance and maintain the ESS ICT (Information Communication and Technology) applications, systems and the environment.
Key Duties
- Design, deploy, maintain, and support mission‑critical applications and infrastructure, including systems supporting PSIM, EACS, CCTV/VMS, and intercom platforms, ensuring availability, resilience, and security.
- Provide proactive and reactive support for 24x7 operational systems, including operating systems, middleware, applications, and databases. Plan and implement upgrades, patching, firmware updates, and configuration changes to minimise service disruption.
- Support multi‑tier application architectures and design, implement, and maintain system integrations using APIs, event‑driven and vendor‑specific mechanisms. Support hardware‑to‑software connectivity for field devices and edge systems.
- Administer application databases, including backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery arrangements. Monitor and tune database performance and undertake capacity planning for critical workloads.
- Monitor application and infrastructure health using enterprise tools. Analyse system logs and metrics to triage and resolve incidents, conduct root‑cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Apply secure configuration, hardening, and patching practices to meet security, audit, and compliance requirements. Maintain technical documentation and standards, and provide specialist technical advice to support system design, evaluation, and operational risk management.
- The successful applicant will be required to participate in an seven day on‑call roster at a frequency of approximately every four to six weeks.
- Strong experience designing, implementing, and supporting system integrations, including APIs, event driven or near real time interfaces, and hardware to software connectivity with edge devices and security field equipment.
- Proven capability in application architecture, database administration, and underlying infrastructure (operating systems, middleware, compute, storage), including backup, recovery, patching, and performance optimisation.
- Demonstrated experience with, or the ability to rapidly transition into, electronic security systems, such as PSIM, EACS, CCTV / Video Management Systems, and intercom platforms, including their application and infrastructure dependencies.
