About the company
Australian Government Agency that provides a range of world‑class services that enable safe and equitable access to Australia’s skies. Their primary focus is maintaining the safety of air travel — both in the air and on the ground — and delivering service outcomes aligned with the needs of airline customers.
About the role
Own the Reliability, Maintainability and Availability outcomes for five‑nines (99.999%) services by engineering, operating and assuring every service dependency end‑to‑end, including cases where upstream and downstream systems must exceed the primary availability target to keep overall performance on track.
Duties
- Model end to end service availability, making dependency and weak link risks explicit.
- Identify and drive remediation of single points of failure, correlated failure modes, and operational fragility.
- Define and enforce reliability and operability requirements with architecture, platform, and integration teams.
- Lead incident learning and RCA, ensuring systemic fixes rather than procedural workarounds.
- Assure changes and maintenance activities are compatible with five‑nines downtime budgets.
Skills & experience
- Experience engineering or operating mission‑critical, high‑availability environments (five‑nines or equivalent)
- Strong systems thinking across service chains and integrations, not just application‑level uptime
- Hands‑on understanding of:
- High‑availability and resilience patterns;
- Observability and alert signal quality; and
- Incident, problem, and change management under tight downtime constraints.
- Ability to present reliability trade‑offs and risks clearly to governance forums.
Benefits
- Flexible working arrangements
- Role can be worked from multiple locations across Australia
- Competitive hourly rate
Please note - Candidates must be Australian Citizens with a minimum AGSVA Baseline Security Clearance.
