Its functions include issuing licences, monitoring compliance, and enforcing regulatory requirements to safeguard people, assets, and broader national interests.

About the role
They are seeking APS6 and EL1 Policy Officers, these roles will play a key part in shaping and strengthening policy outcomes by working closely with senior leaders to design evaluation criteria, manage program risks and guide effective policy development. It involves leading stakeholder engagement activities, undertaking complex research and analysis, and producing high‑quality advice and documentation to support informed decision‑making. The position also contributes to a collaborative, knowledge‑sharing environment by monitoring progress against milestones and supporting continuous improvement in policy processes.

Duties
  • Designing and applying criteria to monitor and evaluate policy effectiveness.
  • Identifying risks to policy development and recommending appropriate mitigations.
  • Leading and participating in stakeholder consultation activities to inform policy design.
  • Conducting complex research and analysis to produce evidence‑based recommendations.
  • Preparing high‑level correspondence, documentation and records that support robust decision‑making.
 
Skills & experience
  • Sound judgement, initiative and the ability to work autonomously within role boundaries.
  • Strong collaboration skills, adapting to different working styles and supporting colleagues.
  • Effective communication, including active listening and appropriate consultation.
  • Ability to apply and share specialist policy expertise with professional judgement.
  • Capacity to understand and integrate insights from other organisational disciplines.
To be considered for this role, you must hold an NV1 clearance and be willing to undertake, progress through and successfully complete the required suitability assessment process.
