Lead Data Engineer 

Join a well known Federal Govenment Department's Operational Analytics branch and play a critical role in designing and delivering cutting-edge data engineering solutions that protect Australia’s financial system. This is your chance to lead impactful projects in a high-profile federal government agency while working with advanced technologies and a collaborative team.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Design and develop RESTful APIs for secure, scalable data access.
  • Integrate external APIs to ingest third-party data into enterprise systems.
  • Manage API gateways, authentication, and access controls for secure data exchange.
  • Ensure APIs meet best practices for scalability, security, and performance.
  • Collaborate with software engineering teams to embed APIs into applications and workflows.
  • Lead technical design discussions and propose scalable architecture solutions.
  • Establish and enforce best practices in data engineering, coding standards, and CI/CD for data pipelines.
  • Partner with product managers, architects, and stakeholders to align solutions with business goals.
What we’re looking for:
  • 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering or related fields.
  • Hands-on experience with big data frameworks (PySpark, Spark, Hadoop).
  • Proven experience building and managing REST APIs, including authentication (OAuth2, JWT) and API gateway management.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL for data processing.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices for CI/CD in data pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and streaming data processing.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related fields.
