System Safety Manager & Senior Systems Engineer – Canberra (Remote Work Considered)

About the Role
The System Safety Manager & Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for leading systems safety assurance and supporting agile engineering practices across multiple product teams. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the role provides oversight of safety programs, configuration management, and technical assurance processes.
This is a Canberra-based position, with flexibility for remote work considered based on project needs and performance.
Duties
- Define and maintain the Systems Safety Program Plan
- Conduct safety assessments in collaboration with product teams
- Support design approvals and technical assurance for product releases
- Lead configuration management activities through the Configuration Manager
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering and release processes
- Deliver education and workshops on systems safety and engineering practices
- Identify safety requirements and their impact on system design
- Engage with stakeholders to ensure documentation and reporting standards are met
Essential:
- Engineering degree in IT, Networking, Computing, or Electrical/Electronic disciplines, or 10+ years of relevant experience
- Certified SAFe® Practitioner (can be completed upon engagement)
- Experience in systems safety assurance programs
- Familiarity with technical regulatory frameworks and agile systems engineering processes
- Department of Defence experience
- Degree from an Australian university
- Higher education in Computer Science or Cybersecurity
- Experience in software development, configuration management, and test & evaluation
- Knowledge of ICT/Electrical safety standards (e.g., AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 62368-1)
- Must be an Australian citizen
- Ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 security clearance
