Job Details
The federal government is seeking a highly skilled Senior Server Engineer
to strengthen their technical operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain the department’s Windows Server environment, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and security across all supported systems.
- Perform day-to-day operational tasks, including monitoring, maintenance, patching, and configuration of server infrastructure in line with organisational standards and best practices.
- Lead troubleshooting activities for complex technical issues, diagnosing root causes, and implementing effective resolutions to minimise downtime and service disruption.
- Act as a key escalation point for critical incidents and major outages, coordinating with relevant teams and vendors to ensure timely resolution and clear communication to stakeholders.
- Contribute to the ongoing development, documentation, and improvement of BAU (Business-as-Usual) processes to ensure efficiency and consistency in operational practices.
- Collaborate with other members of the Infrastructure Services team to plan, test, and deploy system upgrades, migrations, and enhancements in accordance with change management protocols.
- Ensure server environments comply with security and compliance requirements, including vulnerability remediation and audit readiness.
- Provide mentoring, technical guidance, and knowledge transfer to junior team members to build capability within the team.
- Maintain detailed and up-to-date documentation of configurations, processes, and incident resolutions for operational continuity and reference.
- Detailed Windows Server understanding and experience including Active Directory, Entra ID, DNS, PKI, ADFS, File and Print, DFS and GPO with Advanced Group Policy Management (AGPM).
- Experience with systems monitoring and patching in Microsoft System Centre products and Intune (SCOM, SCCM/MECM).
- Understanding of Cyber Security tools and methodologies including application whitelisting, host-based firewalls, vulnerability scanners and device control.
- Experience managing Azure Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) servers including template deployment, user and resource administration
- Understanding of Australian Government Cyber Security requirements, processes and artefacts including ISM, Essential 8 and ACSC hardening guides
- Strong experience in writing technical documentation including SOPs and design documentation.
- Experience implementing and managing Privileged Access Management (PAM) solutions such as CyberArk, including vaulting credentials, session monitoring, and integrating with enterprise authentication systems. Experience with enterprise identity management solutions.
