About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Linux Administrator
to join a collaborative and high-performing Digital Research Infrastructure
team. In this role, you will play a critical part in delivering secure, high-quality Linux services and support for complex research environments. You will help drive innovation, manage workloads, and deliver hands-on system administration in a unique and security-focused landscape.
This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned Linux professional to work in a highly secure, technically challenging environment supporting advanced scientific research infrastructure.
About You
You are a proactive and experienced Linux professional with a strong background in secure system administration. You thrive in collaborative, research-driven environments and are skilled at managing workloads while maintaining high service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and enhancement of Linux services aligned with enterprise architecture and technology roadmaps.
- Deliver day-to-day operational support for Linux-based systems.
- Oversee the tasking and workload of team members and ensure timely delivery of system changes.
- Provide in-depth system administration and support for complex Linux research systems, including virtualisation via on-premise cloud infrastructure.
- Manage Linux security initiatives, including vulnerability management, monitoring, and incident response in a research-specific threat environment.
- Maintain, patch, upgrade, and manage Linux operating systems and associated infrastructure.
- Ensure best practices in change and configuration management are upheld.
- Advanced scripting capabilities in at least one of: Bash, Perl, or Python.
- Strong administration skills in CentOS/RedHat Linux environments.
- Experience developing web interfaces that connect to Linux-based backends.
- Demonstrated experience with Ansible for configuration management.
- Working knowledge of PKI/Certificate systems, particularly in a Network Access Control (NAC) context.
- Hands-on experience implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on Linux platforms.
- Linux certification(any type) is essential.
- Onsite work is mandatory.
Service delivery must be conducted at either:
- Edinburgh, SA (preferred due to available workspace), or
- Fishermans Bend, VIC (limited space, considered for the right candidate).
Due to the nature of the role candidates holding an active NV2 clearance will be prefered.
