The federal governmnet depaertment iscseeking a highly organised and motivated Senior Engineer to lead its End User Computing (EUC) team, based in the Canberra office.

The successful applicant will have well developed technical skills and experience with windows desktop environments that are both physical and virtual, excellent written and oral communication, strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, and the ability to manage a small technical team. 

The role is required to maintain a strong customer service focus supporting a broad range of technical services to the department and its stakeholders.  

The role has a requirement to participate in the team’s on-call roster and involves some after-hours work and travel requirements from time to time.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior engineers, cross-functional teams, including supporting program objectives and business outcomes.  
  • Develop and implement strategies for system enhancements, optimisation, and scalability.  
  • Troubleshoot and resolve escalated technical issues, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum system reliability.  
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of new technologies and solutions, recommending and implementing those that align with business objectives.  
  • Provide leadership to the EUC team, as well as the broader IT Operations Unit.  
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define system requirements and design solutions that meet their needs.  
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for systems, processes, and procedures.   
  • Managing allocated workload and duties on a day-to-day basis. 
  • Managing the delivery, support and maintenance for the windows desktop environment. 
  • Packaging and deployment of software and upgrades. 

Experiance 
  • Experience administering a secured End User Computing environment. 
  • Experience building, deploying and managing physical and virtual desktop SOEs.  
  • Experience with Microsoft Configuration Manager Current Branch and Intune. 
  • Experience with Active Directory and Group Policy. 
  • Experience with Azure Virtual Desktop and VMware virtual machines. 
  • Experience with application packaging. 
  • Experience in managing IT technical staff.  
  • Strong scripting in PowerShell, VBScript and Batch.  
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.  
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and spoken).  
  • Applicants should have tertiary or industry qualifications in Information Technology and/or equivalent relevant experience. 

Due to the nature of the role the applicant need to be an Australian citizen with NV1 security clearance, the candidates with NV2 clearance or NV1 in progress are also encouraged to apply.
